In the year 1840 Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford introduced afternoon tea to England; it has grown from a tray of tea and bread and butter to one of the most quintessential of customs in England and can be enjoyed in a quaint Westcountry tearoom to the finest hotels in London.
Traditionally to be enjoyed at around 4pm to break up the long period between lunch and dinner, this custom is still a highlight for many and we have enjoyed over the last few months bringing the afternoon tea to light with our seasonal afternoon tea hampers.
Many have purchased the hampers as a gift for a friend or loved one and they have certainly been going down a treat with our customers who have loved the novelty of receiving such a gift and the fact that they can be enjoyed at home or taken on a picnic to the beach.
We also offer afternoon tea on a slightly bigger scale for small garden parties and birthday celebrations; from cocktail pasties to elegant tarts and cakes, we really do feel that you can 'wow' your guests with a beautifully filled table of our treats.
We love to add new items at a seasonal change and we hope that the current autumn hamper with its ploughman rolls and sticky gingerbread cake will really showcase the season and you will always find scones with jam and Cornish clotted cream, just remember whilst in Cornwall it's jam first!
So if you are looking for the perfect little gift or celebration treat, then look no further than one of our afternoon teas, so raise your glass or cup of tea, packed in a hamper for all to see.
